Robert A. Dobson III, former member of the Board of Trustees, passed away on August 7, 2019. Besides his gracious service to King’s from 2002 to 2011, “Bobby” Dobson was chairman of the Dobson Tape Ministry and served on the boards of numerous organizations, including Child’s Haven, the Jesus Video Project, Homeless Children International, and SC School for the Deaf and Blind, where he served several years as chairman. The King’s College grieves the loss of a dedicated friend and a champion for the cause of Christ.

Dobson was born in 1938 in Greenville, South Carolina, where he grew up. After receiving his undergraduate and law degrees from the University of South Carolina, he pursued a career as a public accountant and tax lawyer, working alongside his father at Dobson & Dobson, Attorneys at Law. He became recognized nationally for his work and was listed in The Best Lawyers in America published by G.P. Putnam’s & Sons, New York, and in Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in the World, Who’s Who in American Law, and Who’s Who in Finance and Industry.

Dobson came to faith in Jesus Christ after his adopted daughter was killed in a car accident in 1991. Since then, he turned to the ministry begun by his father, the Dobson Tape Ministry, which supplies Bibles and other religious materials to nursing homes, retirement centers, orphanages, and homeless shelters, and invested his efforts generously into philanthropic causes.

Controller Judy Barringer says, “I was thankful to have the privilege of interacting with him during the time I served as an interim executive team member. I really appreciated his love for the Lord and the College and for his intelligent, insightful, and thoughtful approach to the topics before the Board.”

Dobson is survived by his wife Beth Cornmesser Dobson; five sons, a daughter, and eleven grandchildren. Condolences may be made to the family by visiting thomasmcafee.com.
