The Politics, Philosophy, and Economics major at King’s—modeled after the same program at Oxford University—is the College’s flagship major and forms the backbone of the common core curriculum that students in all majors study at King’s. Now, students who choose to major in Politics, Philosophy, and Economics can also choose to concentrate their studies on one of those disciplines while maintaining an interdisciplinary focus.

The New York State Education Department has approved the addition of three concentrations to the PPE major: one in Politics, one in Philosophy, and one in Economics. Students who complete a concentration will be better prepared for graduate study in their field of concentration and have a documented record of particular study in that discipline.

“These concentrations will allow PPE majors to focus a little more on Politics, Philosophy or Economics–perhaps for the purposes of thinking about graduate education in or employment related to that one field of interest – while retaining the full benefits of the interdisciplinary nature of the PPE degree itself, which is one of the hallmarks of the King’s curriculum,” said Dr. Mark Hijleh, Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of the Faculty at King’s.

All PPE majors who select a concentration will take seven electives in their discipline. Five of those are part of the PPE major, while the two remaining will use open elective credits. Any PPE major with all PPE electives and a few open electives remaining can pursue a PPE concentration beginning in the Fall 2016 semester. Students must formally declare the concentration to enroll in it. Details for each concentration are listed in the College Catalog.
