National guide to colleges highlights innovative learning opportunities at top schools

NEW YORK CITY— The King’s College has been recognized as a College of Distinction among Christian colleges and colleges in New York for the 2016-2017 academic year. Colleges of Distinction is a resource for students and parents that recognizes those higher education institutions excelling in offering the best options for students on an individual level.

“We’re so happy to award The King’s College for developing these skills that are so relevant to graduates’ lives,” said Tyson Schritter, executive editor for Colleges of Distinction. “High student engagement in college is one of the keys to a successful undergraduate education. With an increasing emphasis on hands-on learning techniques, Colleges of Distinction applauds The King’s College for practicing methodologies that prepare students for their futures.”

King’s innovative application of high impact educational practices such as its Politics, Philosophy and Economics core curriculum, unique house system model of community, and opportunities for key internships in NYC earned the school recognition among the nation’s Colleges of Distinction.

In 2016, for instance, 58% of the student body participated in more than 200 internships, combining classroom learning with practical real-world experience. Companies and organizations where King’s students interned include charity:water, CNBC, Salem Media Group, the U.S. House of Representatives, and the United Nations. These internships are a key driver of our exceptional post-graduation placement rate, with 91% of King’s class of 2015–compared to the national average of 82%–finding employment or enrolling in graduate school within six months of graduation.

In order to be selected as a College of Distinction, schools must demonstrate results across the Four Distinctions—Engaged Students, Great Teaching, Vibrant Community, and Successful Outcomes.

The annual process to select the nation’s Colleges of Distinction also includes a review of each institution’s freshman experience, as well as its general education program, strategic plan, and alumni success and satisfaction measures.
