King’s Welcomes Four New Faculty Members

For the 2017-2018 school year, The King’s College is pleased to welcome four new faculty members who bring a diverse set of experiences and expertise to the college.

For the 2017-2018 school year, The King’s College is pleased to welcome four new faculty members. These professors bring a diverse set of experiences and expertise to various programs of study at the College, including the Humanities major, the Journalism, Culture and Society major, and the Media, Culture, and the Arts major.

Dr. Joshua Kinlaw

Joshua KinlawJoshua Kinlaw, Ph.D., is joining the College full-time as an assistant professor of history and humanities after two years of teaching as an adjunct. He is married to King’s alumna Gretchen (Robertson) Kinlaw (’08). Kinlaw earned his Ph.D. in history from the City University of New York, specializing in ancient and medieval history. He will teach a variety of courses at King’s, including Western Civilization, Writing, Classical Literature, and Latin. Dr. Mark Hijleh, the vice president for Academic Affairs and dean of faculty at King’s, said, “We are excited to welcome Dr. Kinlaw to the full-time faculty after several years as a member of our adjunct faculty. His expertise in history and humanities areas will bring exceptional ongoing value to our students as we launch our new Humanities major.”

Clemente Lisi

Clemente LisiClemente Lisi, formerly the deputy head of news at the New York Daily News, joins The King’s College as affiliate assistant professor of journalism and co-director of the New York City Journalism semester program (NYCJ). Lisi holds a Master of Science degree in journalism from the Columbia Graduate School of Journalism, and brings decades of experience in reporting and journalism to King’s. He will teach courses in journalism and writing, and will also supervise student journalist internships and practica. In addition, he will advise student publications and media, and will partner with Professor Paul Glader in directing NYCJ. “After a distinguished career as a working journalist, including positions at the New York Daily News, New York Post, and ABC News, it is our privilege to welcome Professor Lisi to the King’s faculty and the McCandlish Phillips Journalism Institute,” said Dr. Hijleh.

Bill Newcott

Bill NewcottBill Newcott joins the College as adjunct instructor in film studies. He brings extensive experience in mainstream journalism and media, as well as previous teaching experience in newswriting, editing, and film and theater criticism. Professor Newcott will teach a foundational course called The Art and Language of Film. Dr. Hijleh says, “Professor Newcott’s experience as writer and media personality in the area of film, including positions with National Geographic and AARP, will benefit our students immensely as they consider the elements of film and its role as an art form both reflecting and influencing society.”

Joshua Mackin

Joshua MackinJoshua Mackin joins the College as an instructor of writing. He will teach College Writing and Research Writing as a full-time guest faculty member. He completed his Master of Fine Arts in creative writing from The New School, concentrating in fiction. He brings a variety of teaching and ministry experience to his new position at The King’s College. Dr. Hijleh said, “The combination of Professor Mackin’s experience as a teacher in NYC and as a creative writer makes him an ideal candidate to deliver writing instruction at King’s this coming year.”

The King’s College welcomes each of these new faculty members, and looks forward to working with them in the pursuit of excellence in all things.
