On August 19, 2017, The King’s College welcomed well over 200 full-time students to the College, one of the largest incoming classes since the College’s relocation to New York City in 1999.

The class comes to King’s from 39 states and 11 countries, and includes students who are national speech and debate champions, National Merit finalists, entrepreneurs, pilots, and Eagle Scouts, among other significant achievements. With this class, the student body at the College will exceed 600 this academic year. Since President Gregory Alan Thornbury joined the College in 2013, the incoming class size has increased over 60%, while retaining the standard of excellence that is a hallmark of King’s students.

The incoming students expressed great excitement for the coming year, especially after arriving at the College, moving into their apartments with the help of fellow students, and meeting House members, faculty, and staff. Blake Ashley, an entrepreneur from Fredericksburg, Texas, who is starting his studies in PPE this fall, said, “I have never felt more welcomed in my life than in my first week at King’s. My roommates, my House, and the faculty have all been remarkably supportive and accessible in this challenging transition. This year holds great things and I cannot wait to see what my class accomplishes!”

Annalise Rogers, an incoming PPE major from Fishers, Indiana, agreed that attending college in New York City can be intimidating, but that her first few days at King’s have changed her perspective. “Moving from Indiana to New York City has been a huge transition, and the community at King’s has helped to make that transition smooth and enjoyable. I have been so blessed by the girls in my House already, and look forwarding to being able to do the same for them.”

The incoming class as a whole demonstrates considerable academic skills in keeping with the rigorous curriculum at King’s. Incoming students are enrolled in each of the nine majors, including the new Journalism, Culture and Society major launching this fall.

Vice President Kimberly Thornbury said, “We are thrilled to welcome this absolutely stellar incoming class to our growing student body. We have been praying for each student by name, and are looking forward to what God will continue to do through all of us at The King’s College. We are proud of our brave and brilliant students seeking the good of the city.”

Over the next several days of new student orientation, these incoming students will meet their House leaders and fellow House members, attend Convocation at the Historic Trinity Church on Wall Street, and participate in campus traditions such as The Great Race, the citywide scavenger hunt that serves as the first House competition of the school year.
