Liturgy: “Abide in His Love . . . together”

Community can be hard. True community even harder. But at the heart of true community is a deep love for one another despite all of our imperfections, flaws, and sins.

What is the King’s Liturgy? King’s Liturgy defines our experience together as a Christian community. It outlines the rhythms we celebrate with the Church at large: Scripture readings, Sabbath habits, and celebration of Holy Days and historical events.

I think it’s safe to say that we as a community are longing for the end of this school year and anticipating the joys of summer and sunshine. The good news is that the finish line is literally around the corner. I am a runner so pardon the race talk.

It is no secret that across the board it’s been a tough year together. I use the word together because that’s what it’s been for me and my team and I would imagine that is what it has been like for you and your team (whoever that may be) too. In John 15 Jesus says, “I am the vine; you are branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.” I love that he uses a plural of branches because I think it paints a picture of this being a community-wide effort to abide in Him together and that apart from him we truly can do nothing. I know without the other “branches” alongside me this year I wouldn’t have made it.

Community can be hard. True community even harder. But at the heart of true community is a deep love for one another despite all of our imperfections, flaws, and sins. In 1 John 4 he reminds us that, “if we love one another, God abides in us and his love is perfected in us.” It is by abiding in Him that we can learn to love one another with a true love that can only come from God. It’s a simple concept that we make often make complex. Let your love be genuine. At the end of the day I leave you with this concept: Love God. Love others.

Finish the race well, you are almost there. Have a wonderful summer!
