The King’s College is pleased to welcome Dr. Nile Gardiner, a former assistant to Margaret Thatcher and now director of the Thatcher Center for Freedom at the Heritage Foundation, to campus on Tuesday, November 18.

Gardiner will deliver an address entitled “Margaret Thatcher: Leadership Lessons in an Age of Crisis,” based on his recent book Margaret Thatcher on Leadership: Lessons for American Conservatives Today. He will also speak in Dr. Joe Loconte’s course on American Foreign Policy regarding the “special relationship” between the United States and Great Britain and its importance in the current foreign policy crises in the Middle East, Ukraine, and elsewhere.

“There is no one in the United States today who has a deeper appreciation of the leadership achievements of Margaret Thatcher than my good friend, Nile Gardiner,” says Loconte, an associate professor of history at King’s. “I am thrilled that he will be sharing his insights and personal reflections on ‘the Iron Lady’ with the King’s College community.”

One of the ten “houses” at The King’s College is named for Margaret Thatcher, and the College’s mission includes educating students who will “shape and eventually lead strategic institutions,” including government. Gardiner’s visit is an exciting opportunity for students to hear from an important voice on these topics.

Before joining The Heritage Foundation, Gardiner served as an aide to former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher and advised her on a number of international policy issues. Working in her Private Office, Gardiner assisted Lady Thatcher with her final book, Statecraft: Strategies for a Changing World.
