The King’s College is pleased to announce that President Gregory Alan Thornbury will be the featured speaker for the National Basketball Association’s annual NBA All-Star Chapel Service, held on Sunday, February 15 in New York City.

Thornbury will preach on “Muscular Christianity,” based on Hebrews 12:1-17. He will be joined by Dove Award-winning recording artist Travis Cottrell, who leads worship with Beth Moore’s Living Proof Live conferences.

Past speakers have included Francis Chan, Max Lucado, John C. Maxwell, Jay Strack, David Jeremiah, James Dobson, and Rich DeVos, who is a member of The King’s College’s board of trustees. The service is organized by Pat Williams, Co-Founder and Senior Vice President of the Orlando Magic and a Basketball Hall-of-Famer. About 200 players, franchise owners, executives, officials, media members, family, and staff attend the event.

“The NBA All-Star Chapel Service began in 1981, and has since grown to become a major part of every All-Star Weekend,” said Williams. “We are always pleased with the quality of speaker we’ve been able to attract, and 2015 is no exception. We are thrilled that Dr. Greg Thornbury has agreed to speak at the chapel in New York. I am confident he will do an outstanding job and impact many NBA lives as a result of his message. We are all looking forward to another chapel experience.”

The 2015 All-Star Games will take place in New York City on February 13-15, where they will be hosted by both of the city’s teams: the New York Knicks, who play at Madison Square Garden, and the Brooklyn Nets, who play at the Barclays Center.

“Almost everyone can think of a time in their childhood when a professional athlete defined for them what it meant to be a person characterized by hard work, excellence, and courage,” said Thornbury. “For this reason and many others, it is a great honor to be asked to lead the NBA All-Star Chapel, and to have the opportunity, along with my dear friend Travis Cottrell, to encourage both players and their families about God’s grace and faithfulness in our time.”
