NEW YORK — September 3, 2013 — As many as four talented high school seniors will be awarded Founders Scholarships in 2014 and given the opportunity to study at The King’s College tuition-free. Beginning today, the competition will be used to seek students who meet the rigorous academic standards of the college and who demonstrate exceptional speaking, writing, and leadership prowess.

Details about this year’s contest topic, along with more information about the Founders Scholarship program and previous recipients, can be found here.

In order to win a Founders Scholarship, students must submit a 1200-1500 word essay and schedule a visit to The King’s College, located in Lower Manhattan, on select days during the Fall and Spring semesters. While at The King’s College, Founders applicants will participate in a leadership and team-building exercise, and they will deliver a three to five-minute speech to a judging panel composed of King’s faculty, staff, and alumni. After completing these Founders events, applicants will spend the rest of the weekend learning more about The King’s College as they attend Inviso events including dinner and a Broadway show.

“The Founders Scholarship brings together the best prospective students from around the world,” said Noah Hunter, Assistant Director of Admissions at The King’s College. “The full-ride scholarship entices students who are committed to attending King’s and are willing to put in the tough work of engaging and communicating ideas that shape the world.”

Winners will be chosen and announced in March 2014.

“Founders Scholarships are awarded to students who write and speak well, who have the ability to think on a higher level, and who ask big questions,” Hunter said.

Previous winners of the Founders Scholarship acknowledge its critical impact on their education and future.

“The Founders Scholarship is a huge part of who I am today for two reasons,” said Matthias Clock, 2007 Founders recipient. “First, the scholarship competition convinced me to come to King’s. The students I met during the competition were smarter, more ambitious, and better prepared than me. I knew I had to go to a college with students like that.”

Clock offered this advice to prospective applicants, “Go big or go home. You will be competing against world-class students, and it will take everything you have to gain a shot at winning. Take risks, think outside the box, and have fun!”

The Founders Scholarship is funded by a generous group of alumni and friends of the College who are dedicated to supporting the next generation of leaders.
