The King’s College Welcomes the Class of 2023

This weekend, The King’s College welcomed nearly 200 incoming students hailing from 30 states and 6 countries. The class of 2023 is among the most talented in the country, with an average 3.77 high school GPA and 26 ACT, placing them in the 82nd percentile of all students taking the ACT.

Noah Hunter, Director of Admissions, said, “While it’s typical for us to recruit a class from all over the country and the world, I’m particularly encouraged by the growth we have had this year in numbers of transfer students. This growth emphasizes to me that The King’s College is filling a vital gap in higher education and that the education we provide is unique.”

Of the incoming class, 37% went to private high schools, 50% attended public high schools, and 14% were homeschooled. Top majors in this class are Business Management (25%); Politics, Philosophy, and Economics (24%); Media, Culture, and the Arts (22%); and Journalism, Culture and Society (12%). Minority students make up 33% of the new students.

Also notable is that 25 new students are first generation college students and 52 are Pell Grant recipients, meaning that they have significant demonstrated financial need. This brings the total number of Pell Grant recipients in the student body to 129. The College is pleased to participate in national trends of greater college enrollment among first generation and low-income families.

“King’s stands out among all the other Christian colleges. It’s not in a cornfield: it’s in New York City,” says Luke Gainey (Business ’23). He adds, “I’m really excited to meet my professors and to build this brotherhood that we have with the Houses.”

Britney Clark is a sophomore from Southwest Baptist University and she’s here for the New York City Semester Program. She says, “I came here because this is a city that’s full of life. There’s a lot of opportunity here. I’m excited about getting into the arts and the business side of New York.”

Incoming students spent their first few days on campus participating in New Student Orientation activities, including an information fair with student organizations and the annual Great Race, which was won by the House of Ronald Reagan. The Houses of C.S. Lewis and Susan B. Anthony took second and third.

On the evening of Tuesday, August 27, students will attend the 76th Annual Convocation Exercises at St. Paul’s Chapel in the Financial District, where they will hear an address from President Tim Gibson and sign the Honor Code. Classes begin Wednesday.
