Welcome to the 2014-‘15 academic year! I missed you this summer. The Student Development team spent the past three months preparing for your return. It is great to have you back.

We have many new faces in our midst. On Saturday, 170 incoming students arrived at The King’s College. I have enjoyed getting to know many of them and am confident that they will add to the richness of our community.

Yesterday, we began the year in a literal sprint—via the 11th Annual Great Race. The passion and intensity was off the charts. Congratulations to the House of Clara Barton for winning the Race (and to the Houses of Corrie ten Boom and Susan B. Anthony for placing second and third). Well done!

I enter this year full of optimism—with confidence that this year will be our best yet. As we launch into the new academic year, here are a few developments to note:

· Faculty and staff: This summer we welcomed Dr. Mark Hijleh as our VP for Academic Affairs and Dean of the Faculty. The College is already better because he is here. There are other additions to the King’s team. To check out who’s who among faculty and staff,go here.

· Convocation: Tonight, we kick off the 2014-‘15 academic year at 6:00 p.m. at Trinity Church. Incoming students will formally mark their entry into the King’s community by signing the Honor Code. Everyone is invited, but please know that seating is limited. Convocation is only mandatory for incoming students.

· King’s Liturgy: The Liturgy, including Scripture readings, worship, and observance of Holy Days, proved to be a defining rhythm for our community last year. We continue to build upon that tradition. Access the Liturgy Calendar here.

· Student Safety Meetings: To ensure the safety of the King’s community, we implemented a safety education strategy. Part of this strategy includes training sessions to be held September 2-4. Please attend so we can work together to preserve the wellbeing of every member of our community.

· Student Handbook: We made a number of changes to the Student Handbook. Please read it.

· Fall Retreat (September 5-7): Don’t miss it! A great lineup of speakers and activities is planned. The Drama Competition takes place that Saturday. Registration opened today on the Student Portal.

Looking forward to a fantastic year,

David Leedy
