This semester, the Media, Culture, and the Arts program at The King’s College again joined forces with The King’s Players to present the musical Ordinary Days, which played from February 2-4 in the City Room on campus.
King’s Debate travels to the Netherlands
During winter break, Audrey Cooper (‘18) and Grayson Logue (‘18) traveled to the Netherlands, home of tulip festivals, canal skating, and the International Court of Justice, to compete at the World Universities Debating Championship hosted at the Hague.
Grayson Logue Receives DeVos Award from ISI
Grayson Logue ‘18, a junior studying Politics, Philosophy, and Economics, was recently awarded the Richard and Helen DeVos Freedom Center Leadership Award, presented by the Intercollegiate Studies Institute (ISI).
King’s Debate Sends First Team to Tournament at Oxford
The morning after the historic 2016 presidential election, King’s debaters Audrey Cooper (‘18) and Grayson Logue (‘18) and coach Josiah Peterson found themselves learning the news from fellow passengers debarking the plane at London’s Gatwick Airport. This was the first year that King’s debate was attending the storied Oxford I.V. debate tournament, hosted by the historic Oxford Union debating society founded in 1823, and it could not have come at a more interesting time.
King’s Debate Society Competes at Yale
Three teams from the King’s Debate Society competed at Yale University from November 4-6, arguing tough topics including the creation of an independent Kurdish state, whether religious leaders should publically endorse political candidates and policies, and if governments should nationalize credit ratings agencies.
King’s Debate Continues Successful Record at Vermont Tournament
A group of 13 students from the King’s Debate Society spent the weekend in Burlington, Vermont, debating topics ranging from the trade-off between worker protection laws and economic growth, to mandatory paternity leave, to Israeli settlement policies.
Largest Group in King’s Debate Society History Competes in Canada
The King’s Debate Society traveled to Canada last weekend with the largest group in KDS history to attend an international tournament, for the Hart House I.V. hosted by the University of Toronto. The group was comprised of nine students, four of whom are first-year debaters, and coach Josiah Peterson. “The Hart House I.V. is one of the top three most competitive tournaments in North America,” said Peterson, “so we were especially excited to be able to bring such a large group to experience this high quality international competition.”
Novice Teams From King’s Debate Compete at HWS tournament
Novice debaters Bernadette Berdychowski (‘20), Iain Coston (‘19), Haley Davidson (‘20), Annabelle Ford (‘20), Lauren Marchand (‘18),and Abel Tirado (‘20) represented the King’s Debate Society this weekend at the Hobart and William Smith tournament in Geneva, NY. They were also accompanied by KDS president Audrey Cooper (‘18) and Coach Josiah Peterson, who served as judges. Debate topics ranged from whether financial aid programs should be exclusively need-based, to whether the sexualization of men advances the feminist movement.
